ARTIST STATEMENT FOR 13 GHLAMOURS

In my photography I am always striving to push myself further and break new boundaries. “Throw my self in the deep end and hope I don’t drown.” This folio ’13 Ghlamours’ is the most perfect example of that. I pushed myself technically, conceptually, creatively and physically with the short time frame I had to complete such an extensive project in. And basically came out with some of the most technically sound and visually exciting work I’ve produced to far.
I went into this folio wanting to produce images with fashion and commercial inspired lighting, but teamed with twisted concepts. Still retain the strange ethereal style that I have but use it within a slightly Glamourfied intent.


The inspiration for this folio was taken from the story, and later movie creation “Thir13en Ghost’s”. The movie’s 13 Ghosts were based on the black zodiac and all had very extensive and specific back stories. It was my love for horror films and extravagant stories that first drew me to the idea of using the black zodiac and these 13 stories behind the ghosts as the inspiration for a highly fashonised, slightly commercial, but ever so twisted approach to a new folio.
Each image was very carefully composed and planed over 2 months, with selected elements leaving hints for people to find, which lead to the specific back-story of the particular ghost. However, these are not representations of these people or their stories. But merely a tribute to them and the inspiration they have give me in order to create more surreal concepts, and heighten the visual curiosity and depth of my images.

Each image has had an immense amount of planning go into them. I researched makeup artistry, hair design, costume design, scouted locations, created or built props, even built some of the sets, as you can see through my visual diary and shooting briefs there are just pages and pages of sketches and plans for the exact composition and all the components that went into each image. I customized each lighting set up and even planned each shoot for the exact point I wanted the sun to be in the sky.
